Budgeting for Debt Management

Debt Management and Consumer Counseling

It isn't very hard to get into financial difficulties. Getting out is a lot harder. It might be a bit painful, but it can be done.

And once you have breathed out-of-debt air, you will never again want to find yourself in deep debt waters again.

Most people do not view credit cards as loans, but that is precisely what they are -- loans. When you hand a credit card to a cashier, you have in effect borrowed the money to pay for your purchase.

The same is true when you enter your credit card information on websites to buy merchandise. It's true that credit cards are a convenience. They make buying things much easier and so much quicker, but they are loans.

When you engage the services of a consumer credit counseling service, you will be asked to supply a list of your debts. You will find that some debts can be renegotiated -- even some secured debts can be renegotiated, including mortgages. You will also find out that your unsecured debt (credit cards) can be renegotiated. But there is a catch there.

A credit counselor is usually in a position to stop the interest and late charges from continuing to mount on your credit card bills. Interest rates can be decreased and late charges can be eliminated altogether. The catch is that the accounts will be closed...permanently. You cannot continue to use those credit cards, and you cannot apply for another credit card until your debts have been paid off in full.

Your total monthly obligations can be reduced by quite a bit and you will be able to live within the budget that will be created for you. It sounds really painful, doesn't it? The truth! You are going to have to make some major adjustments, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Debt Management and Family Crisis

A family crisis can be caused by many things. A job that was thought to be secure can be lost. Sickness and accidents can happen. An older parent can require care.

Lots of things can happen that are beyond your control, and certainly not your fault, but that can put you in a financial bind.

A decrease in income has the same effect as an increase in out-go. There is the inevitable shortfall. Maybe the shortfall is temporary and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel and you really can't say just how long this financial crisis is going to last.

What you can do to get yourself and your family through a really rough spot financially will depend greatly upon how you have handled your finances before. If you have always paid your bills on time and in full each and every month you will find that your creditors are going to be more than willing to work with you and actually help you survive your crisis.

The first thing to do is to contact each creditor yourself. This should preferably be done before the first payment is late. Explain the situation and you will likely find that your creditors will allow you to just make interest payments only and that it will not do any harm to your credit score. This is the first and best option.

If your family crisis is going to continue for more than a few months, then you may need to seek some relief through a consumer counseling agency or through a debt management company. You might even consider the possibility of a debt consolidation loan.

Whatever course of action that you choose, it is far better for you to initiate it and to do so as early as possible before any damage is done to your credit score.

Debt Management Is a Good Thing

Debt Management When Starting a Business

Starting a new business is a heady time. There are all of those dreams and plans just sitting there waiting to be realized. You KNOW your plan will work and you have the utmost confidence in yourself and your abilities to make your plan work. Ambition, energy, and enthusiasm are not the problems -- but money might be.

Within your business model, you need to have a debt management plan in place before you begin. Starting a business...any business...takes money, and don't let anybody ever tell you any different. Think about it. Your expenses for living are going to keep on adding up every day and every month even if your income isnt keeping up with the demand.

And that isn't all. When you make your business plan, you need a financial plan to go with it. You are going to have living expenses, but you will also have business expenses. Getting any business off the ground takes a financial investment of some kind.

Maybe you are thinking about starting a business from your own home and you believe that since you won't have to be paying for renting a building, paying extra utility bills, etc., you won't have any business expenses. You couldn't be more wrong.

You are going to have to buy various software, and you are going to have to subscribe to specific services. If you are working at home for
yourself, you are going to be responsible for paying self-employment tax every quarter. You will likely have to advertise your new business. The world probably isn't waiting with bated breath for you to come on the business scene. Everything that you bring in is not going to be profit.

A business plan needs to include a financial and debt management plan. Don't leap before you look.
